Stimulus Bill Under Fire: recap of who’s against it
Will Obama’s economic stimulus plan save our country? Hating on the Stimulus, Dislike it. The very official-sounding anti-stimulus group is suddenly huge in Search. And Barack Obama still boasts sky-high approval ratings, but not everything the president stumps for turns to gold. His much-maligned stimulus bill is currently under fire from a slew of very vocal opponents. Here’s a recap of who’s against it.
Americans for Prosperity
The very official-sounding anti-stimulus group is suddenly huge in Search. So huge, in fact, that their site crashed on Monday morning (at least we couldn’t access it). Apparently, the limited government group sent an open letter to the U.S. Senate urging lawmakers to vote against the stimulus bill. Hispanic Business notes that the “group stands resolutely against many mainstream economists.” They are also hosting a “no stimulus” petition that regular folks can sign and send to the powers that be.
Senator John McCain
President Obama’s presidential rival has said that he supports a toned-down stimulus bill, one that would cost taxpayers about half as much as the planned package. During an interview on “Face the Nation,” McCain called the legislation “generational theft” and a “setback to change.” Mocking Obama’s campaign slogan already? Ouch.
The American People
According to various polls, including ones from CBS and CNN, the majority of Americans still support the stimulus. However, those numbers appear to be falling. CBS News writes that support for the $800 billion package has “fallen 12 points since January.” Additionally, more Americans are becoming skeptical that the stimulus will actually help the withering economy.
China
It’s not that China is opposed to a stimulus package, but the country’s commerce representatives are wary of any “Buy American” clauses. China argues that Protectionism, the act of “protecting domestic producers by impeding or limiting, as by tariffs or quotas, the importation of foreign goods and services,” will hinder international trade and harm the economic recovery. It’s worth noting that China is practicing what it preaches. In its own stimulus plan, there are no “Buy China” provisions.
Here we go again, this Monkey NObama is telling the Nation that we need to give our hard earned money to everyone else. What he fails to mention that $40 Billion of our tax dollars gose to AIDs research, and $150 Billion to Africa for birth control and health care. WTF is this a****** is thinking? Also what about all the money in the Steal From Us package that is going to labor unions and ACORN? Wake up America because this is about to become a Socialist Republic under this Coon!!!!
What we need is a new reveloution to begin a new. Thomas Jefferson saw this coming, just read some of what this Founding Father wrote. We are being taxed without representation more than ever!!!!!!!!!! Terminate the IRS and start a Comsumer Consumption tax in place of the IRS!!!!!!!
First of all not all americans overspent on their credit. Many people are loosing their homes because of loss of jobs. The corporations that we are bailing out have gotten all the tax breaks. Not only are they wasting the bail out dollars, but the credit companies are increasing the interest rates on the credit cards making it impossible to pay. We are not only going to be taxed by the government on the bail out money, but will be paying on the debts we owe now at a higher rate! This is outragious! Obviously the bail outs to the corporations are not working. The corporations are laying off americans and putting in for work visas for non americans to work. How american is this? Americans need to stand together and protest for our say. WE THE PEOPLE!
Obama (what a waste of votes!) lied through his teeth in his speech, there is no state with a 15% unemployment rate here is the proof: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics link: He should have visited Michigan since they have the Highest rate at 10.6% (Last Modified Date: January 27, 2009).
Well, as I see it, this situation did not happen overnight. We have to look at who has been in control of the House of Representatives and
the Senate for the past two administrations, not one. We have gotten so big government orientated that it is no longer the same government founded over 200 years ago. Several circumstances have caused this. Look at all the disastors this country has suffered from in the last 10 to 15 years – 911, hurricanes, tornadoes, and others that caused insurance costs to soar. Businesses today have to pay hefty costs in insurance, etc. When there is no demand for their product, there is no profit. I am talking mostly about small businesses and corporations. Health care has skyrocketed and look out if you don’t have health coverage. Who benefits?
To me the stimulus package is just putting a bandaid on a much bigger injury. Tax cuts are the answer- to the people first, then to small businesses- not large corporations.
The writer of this blog, Mike Krumboltz, would serve the public a tad better if he had included the much respected and historically highly accurate Rasmussen Poll linked below. Support for this “stimulus” plan is fading and far lower than Obama-supporting main-stream-media is willing to publicize…
I wish someone would have asked Suddam or Pelosie on just how far this nation could go into debt before voting on such a bill. I would love to see a Think Tank Report on how much money this country can borrow without being relegated to a 3rd rate country status. Just like corporations, countries can also go into bankruptcy.
Perhaps someone should have reminded the Pres, that in 1935 our US unemployment rate was 15%. FDR and the Congress threw billions into programs like WRA, TVA, etc and what did we get for it – unemployment in 1939 was 20%!!
I’m sick of everyone’s whining. I hope the economy goes up in smoke. You can’t eat money anyway. The playing field will then be leveled. Everyone will bleed, rich & poor, liberal & conservative, black & white. The poor will ultimately come out on top because we are used to doing without. Bring it on!
This so called stimulus bill is nothing more than a political power grab it will not and cannot stimulate the economy if anything it will escalate the recession the Country is already suffering. If left alone the free market will adjust and correct itself, of course some hard knocks will be suffered by all and many a business will fail however the end result will be a better, stronger and much healthier economy. Of course this cannot happen if our political leaders continue to meddle.
I will support Obama like the liberals supported Bush the last eight years. Called no, nada, won’t do it, not perdant. Plain Hell no. I would rather see bread lines, and eat s*** with the chickens then follow this baby killer into hell. How in the hell he got elected just amazes me. They say Bush stoled the election of 04, Obama pulled off a good one or there’s 66,000,000 brain dead Americans that we can identify.
obama said himself that this bill has unnecessary portions that are not about stimulating the economy. im pretty sure obama’s team presented this bill. so if he really wanted to act fast and effectively why did he put garbage in it to cause confusion. he thought everyone would bow to his wasteful spending, and thats proof of his lack of experience.
Oh, Bridgett ! Bush DID NOT “put us here”!!! Greedy people did! Too many bought houses they couldn’t afford. Banks and real estate people caused the housing bubble, and greedy people bought more house than they needed to show off their “success”. Many Americans were “living it up” and running up credit cards. This is a complicated mess the country is in, but it WAS NOT Bush’s fault !
Will Obama’s plan save our country? NO. Only when Americans turn back from their sin and seek out counsel from God, will this country turn around again. Wealthy people, and those who chose to live as if they were wealthy, must get back basic values like hard work and sacrifice. Work hard at what you do! Quit buying things you don’t need. Pare down your lifestyles! Humble yourselves and turn this country back from destruction!
